Have A Great Day

Updated: Nov 26, 2020

I haven't been without inspiration recently... In fact, it seems to flow so abundantly that it is hard to keep it all focused. While I am still working through things so that I may share them in a way that is easier for others to process, I am going to share something that I wrote a couple of years ago. I came across it again just tonight, and I am still finding it so uplifting that I thought it might brighten someone else's day up:

From the very moment I open my eyes, I can make a decision of how the rest of my day is going to go. I have this power. You have this power. We don’t always remember it for some reason, but it is always there.

This morning, I woke up to the sound of rain, and the feel of unheated air. It wasn’t quite my time to wake up. But there I lay. Wide awake. I look over at Tyler who’s body is angled so that his legs make it through this crack below my feet and—who is sound asleep. I stare at the ceiling for awhile. Our ceiling is made of some synthetic fiber that resembles a light tan leather with little wholes specking the ceiling in diamond formations. It reminds of the ceiling of a vintage VW Beetle. Shout out to Justin Carr. And then the thought came across my mind: “today I am going to have a great day.” And so it started.

Tyler’s eyes made an appearance around 7:34am. I can only be so exact as he only woke up to check the time. Then he went back to sleep and rustled around a bit, and needed some help, I could tell, waking up. His favorite way to be woken up is tickling. As a good friend, this is the only way I wake him up. I end up being far more awake and ready to take on the day for another 2 hrs, but I am in good spirits and even sang Tyler a song to help him get up “Everybody’s gonna love today gonna love today gonna love today…”

At around 10am, we finally left the van. It is pouring quite heavily, and my flip-flops sound a bit like I am ringing out a rag with each step. No worries though, as I am wearing my mustard yellow “What a Beautiful Day” poncho. It’s so large that it drowns me as I escape the rain, but we are given great photo opportunities. As I pose next to the “Why Not” street sign, I am inspired to write this post. And not to wait until tomorrow when I can tell you how great all of my day was… But to boldly say right now, that I am going to have a wonderful day as I am having a great day right now. Because I have that power within me, and you have that power within you. Have a Beautiful Day because Why Not?
